What it is

The program Runtime Radio’s DJs go on air with: it takes the computer’s audio, encodes it as MP3 and sends it to the station’s server. You choose your studio, type the password once and press «Vai in onda» (go on air).

Runtime StreamFlow is a live broadcast client: it takes the computer’s audio, from a mixer, a sound card or a microphone, encodes it as MP3 and sends it to the station’s server, an AzuraCast, in place of BUTT. Server, port and quality are already set.

Today it is made for the Runtime Radio team, and its DJs already use it: the list of studios and the server address are built into the program. It is a program of its own, not part of Runtime Live Machine Pro: whoever broadcasts can use any playout software. When it is complete, a version for everyone, configurable, will follow.

It is Runtime Utilities' next release. For now there are no downloads on this page.

Features

01

Going on air

In the settings you choose your studio and type the password; if «Remember the password» stays on, it is saved encrypted by Windows, and only after a successful broadcast. Then you choose the input device: mixer, sound card or microphone. You press «Vai in onda», and the label turns to «In onda» only once the server has really been receiving the audio for a few seconds.

The main screen also has the microphone volume, adjustable live, and the level meters. Now Playing sends the show’s name and host to the player.

MIX MODE
For those with only a USB microphone and no mixer: StreamFlow adds the voice to everything the computer is playing, the desk of Runtime Live Machine Pro or of any other program. No drivers or virtual cables are needed. Listen on headphones: with speakers the microphone picks up the music.
Recording
An MP3 copy of every broadcast in Documents\StreamFlow. A problem with the file, such as a full disk, does not stop the broadcast.
When something goes wrong
If the connection drops, StreamFlow retries by itself for a few minutes. The connection test tries server, port and password and says where it breaks; the logs open with a click, and passwords never end up in them.

Where it stands

Runtime Radio’s DJs already use it, on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11, and since 0.10.0 it updates itself: it downloads the new version in the background and, when you are not on air, asks whether to install it. Before the release, the licence and the configurable version, for those broadcasting on another station, are still to come. There are no versions for macOS and Linux.

03

How it is built

Electron 40, React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS and Zustand for the interface, FFmpeg for encoding, Vite and electron-builder for the build. The mark, «Onda» (wave), is an S made of a sound wave, with the red dot of the live signal.
