What it is

A science fiction text adventure, written and played in Italian. You are William T. Eriksonn, the only person aboard the Santa Maria, a cargo ship with the registration TSC-1972. On your course there is a black mass the radar cannot read: you board it to cut off a piece you can sell.

The Santa Maria’s hold has been empty for six weeks and Yusuf, at Warehouse Four, won’t give you credit anymore. On your course there is a black mass the radar cannot read, and you board it to cut off a piece you can sell. Inside you find a ship that was grown rather than built.

Il Relitto Silente (The Silent Wreck) is the prequel of The Santa Maria Saga, the stories of the cargo ship TSC-1972: Il Mistero della Santa Maria will come next. It is the desktop remake of the first Relitto Silente, with the story rewritten in FAVELLA 1, the text adventure language by the same author, inside a new app, with new music and sound.

The game is in development and there are no downloads yet: the first public release will be 1.0.0. The project can be followed on the saga’s website, thesantamaria.it, with the work diary, the news and material to download.

How it plays

You play with the mouse or the keyboard. The exits, the things in front of you and the possible actions sit at the bottom of the screen, and a click tells the game what to do. If you prefer the old kind of text adventure, you can type your commands: set «Comandi» to «scritti» in the options and a command line replaces the buttons.

The text runs on a panel that takes the colour of the place, the steel of the Santa Maria first and then the cold light of the wreck. Next to it, the ship’s cameras and the multiscanner show the room you are in. A journal keeps track of what you have seen, and games are saved to disk.

02

Sound and music

Every sound in the game, from the ambience of the rooms to the events, is synthesised by an audio engine written for it. The music is generated with artificial intelligence, with Google’s Lyria 3.5 and with Suno, chosen and directed by the author. The tracks are listed one by one in the game’s credits.

03

How it is built

Two games live in the same repository. The remake is today’s game: FAVELLA 1 inside a Tauri app, with new music and sound, and its numbering starts afresh. The original version, the first Relitto Silente made with Electron and React, stays as it was, with its history and its versions.

The story
Fourteen FAVELLA 1 files, one per act plus the cross-cutting ones. The engine that runs it is FAVELLA 1, executed inside the app with Pyodide.
The app
Tauri 2 with React and TypeScript, and an audio engine in Rust. An interface made for it: the text panel, the actions, the journal, saves on disk.
The images
The Santa Maria comes from the canonical assets of the sequel, Il Mistero della Santa Maria. There are no images of the wreck: it is drawn in code, including the stars, the mass and the room scans in the visor’s lens.
The tests
A test suite plays every ending and checks that the game stays winnable; other tests check the interface.

Where it stands

The game is in development: today’s versions are the 0.x ones, and the first public release will be 1.0.0. Windows is the tested platform; the Linux package already builds but has not yet been tried on a real machine. There are no downloads here yet.

The project can be followed on the saga’s website, thesantamaria.it: the work diary, the news, the wallpapers and the poster to download, and the story of the Santa Maria.

Licences and artificial intelligence

Two licences, chosen by the author: MIT for the code, CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 for the story, texts, images and music.

The music is generated with Lyria 3.5 (Google Flow Music) and with Suno, as directed by the author, and is listed track by track; some images are generated with artificial intelligence tools; the code and the documents were written by the author with the help of Claude (Anthropic). The story and the characters are Simone Pizzi’s.
